Meet The Team - Janusz Wesolowski
As part of our ‘Meet The Team’ series, here is Janusz’s profile, so you can learn a little more about another of our very experienced advisers.
Q: What is your role at J Finance Ltd?
A: In short, my role at J Finance is to help people with all their needs relating to mortgage finance. In practice it involves providing advice on mortgages, insurance and the most relevant aspects of buying or refinancing a property. I try to convert the financial jargon into an understandable language, that being either English or Polish! I explain what to expect throughout the process and most importantly recommend solutions that I feel will put my clients in the best possible position.
Q: How long have you worked at J Finance?
A: If I remember correctly I started In December 2013. Property prices were starting to climb after the recession and it was a very good and exciting time to be a mortgage adviser.
Q: Why should someone listen to your advice?
A: I spend much of my week arranging various financial products for clients and I do many applications every week. After many years I have developed excellent knowledge of the criteria required by many lenders and honed my ability to help find solutions to many of my clients’ financial problems. When I meet a new client – whatever their situation, I’ve invariably seen other clients with something similar.
However, the less obvious but more important answer to this question is that all the advisers at J Finance have a fantastic work ethic. We understand that the key to success in our business is long lasting relationships with clients and a fair and honest approach is the only way to achieve that. Sometimes, telling client ,,don’t do it’’ is the way to do it.
Years of working with solicitors, lenders and estate agents make us know theirs tricks and often asking the right question is the only way to get the correct answer. Something clients would struggle to figure out themselves.
I try to explain every option to every client, regardless of their initial intentions and it’s surprising how many people change their mind simply because they were not aware that there is often another way to do something. That is why I like to call myself an adviser not a broker.
Q: How are you regulated?
A: We are directly authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. This provides the necessary security to our clients and assurance that I am competent, qualified and that they can trust my advice. Being directly authorised gives us flexibility to be able to achieve the best outcome for our clients without restrictions from any other company – that being access to various lenders, products and solutions.
Q: What do you like best about working with J Finance?
A: There is no way I can narrow it down to one thing. The amount of job offers I have turned down whilst working here would be the best proof of that! But to outline it succinctly I would say:
We have a common goal, but everyone understands that there is more than one way to achieve that.
We have different opinions, but everyone understands that we are all working together towards that goal.
We all have good ideas, and everyone understands that there is no monopoly for that.
We learn from each other.
Q: Describe your typical day
A: To increase efficiency, we all start our day with a cup of tea or coffee! Morning tends to be my email time when I respond to electronic communication, I now get close to 100 enquiry emails per day, and this is combined with sorting out all relevant issues as they arise with every new email. I confirm things with lenders, submit applications and provide explanations for existing applications to progress them further if anything has to be done.
Afternoons are usually spent writing letters to clients explaining their mortgage or insurance contract and phoning existing and new clients. All this is usually disrupted by phone calls or messages as they arrive. If something important comes up I try and deal with it immediately. Late afternoon is usually spent on the phone as most people are now able to talk after work. I will call existing clients and new ones who are just aspiring to get on the property ladder.
Most of my evenings are taken up by appointments where I meet clients to discuss their options and provide advice. Currently this Is mostly video calls.
This may make it appear that I am organised but given I try to deal with issues as soon as possible I often abandon the routine and spend half the day on the phone with lenders.
Q: What makes you happy?
A: Work wise, it will be to under promise and over deliver. I love the feeling when clients say they have spoken to so many advisers and no one told them what I have told them. And then my clients referring their friends with very difficult situations and telling them that I will sort this out with ease…
In personal life, I am a family man. I work a lot so most of free time I devote to my wife and children. And after 3 days in a row with my family – fishing alone is what I enjoy the most.
Q: What do you like to do at the weekend?
A: I often work half a day on Saturday. Then spend some time with the family, going for walks or at playgrounds. Almost every Sunday is a family day out.
